Run Stress Out of Town! Reclaim the Keys to Your City.

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

“Stress is not happening because your job is difficult. It is happening because you are incapable of handling your own systems. You don’t know how to manage your body or your mind or your emotions or your energies. If you know that, then nothing is stressful because you are no longer hijacked by external situations” ~ Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev

STRESS! It’s gripped the world. It’s gripped many of us! It’s become so natural that we don’t know what life is like without stress.

If they don’t have a crisis, they’ll make one.

The truth is, and though we don’t like to admit it, we’re pretty much all like that. We’ve gotten so use to feeling the stress in our bodies that when it’s not there we feel odd or “not quite right”. We will unconsciously go on the hunt for something to stress about so or bodies can go back to feeling “normal”.

Stress Management courses are offered by our employers. They are written about in magazines. Stress Management is discussed on TV and all over the internet.

The truth is you don’t have to be stressed. It is not your natural state.

Peace is YOUR natural state.

You’ve been out of this place of peace for so long now that you’ve forgotten.

What if you could get back to Peace, even when things don’t seem to be working the way you think they should be working?

What if you could feel good ALWAYS despite appearances?

It’s time to put the REAL Manager in charge of your life. It’s time to put YOU in charge of your life.

Your body isn’t the manager. Your mind isn’t the manager. Your emotions and Energy are not the managers either.

These are each equally important parts of you, however they are all intended to be managed by Your Spirit. They are the team Your Spirit leads through this experience we call Life!

How would your life change if Your Spirit managed your life experience?

Would Your Spirit choose to sit on the couch in front of the TV half-sleeping through life? Who do you think is managing that choice?

Would Your Spirit choose the same job, the same friends, the same recreational activities, the same distractions?

What activities would Your Spirit give your body? What direction would Your Spirit guide your mind? How would Your Spirit use your Energy? What different emotions would you experience if your Spirit guided your Body, Mind and Energy?

These are all important questions to ask yourself, especially if you feel your life is being managed by anyone or anything other than You.

Your Spirit will ALWAYS choose that which serves you. Your Spirit will ALWAYS love you and keep you safe.

Give Your Spirit the Keys to Your City. Leave stress at the gate, and begin living in your natural state of Peace once again.

Kindness Counts

Monday, February 4th, 2008

It’s very easy, as we are out there trying to build our fortunes, to get caught up in the “profitable” versus “non-profitable” actions.

These ARE things you want to consider as you are building your business.  Distraction actions are not profitable.  That much is true.

There is, however, one very important thing to remember.

Kindness counts.

Building a business from the mind (in a very calculating and analytical way) can be profitable.  You can make a lot of money.

Building a business from the heart (which connects to our creative soul) can be profitable as well, and on many more levels than just money.

What I have found, through both my own experience, and through observation of my clients, is that when you are a creative soul, creating a business without heart doesn’t work.

Profits decline, or don’t happen at all.  The JOY in your business disappears.  You hang out in your brain.  You do-do lots of different things that don’t get the flow happening or create the results you were looking for.  The JOY in your life and work disappears.

How do you bring it all back in–the profit and the joy?

Return to heart.  Kindness counts.

Be kind and loving to those who do become customers or clients.  Be kind and loving to those who do not become customers or clients.  Be kind and loving to those outside of your business.  Be kind and loving to you.

When you find yourself overpowered, as it were, by melancholy, the best way is to go out and do something kind to somebody or other. ~ John Keble

It’s all too easy to get caught up in how things affect us directly.  When you take the time, however, to walk around your experience and look at it from different perspectives, you learn new things.

What if how you perceived things was not the full picture?  What if there was more to it than what you initially saw?  Would you respond differently?

We aren’t always able to see from all perspectives, however, when we fill the experience with love it changes it, much like adding savoury spices to a stew–the flavour changes.

The flavour of love is both sweet and savoury.  How will your business and life change when you add in the flavours of Love, Creativity and Kindness?

Return to your Heart.  Return to your Creative Soul.  Kindness counts.

Your Most Important Relationship

Your Most Important Relationship
One of the most important relationships in your life is the one with yourself.

I know you’ve heard this before, in a few different forms.

“You are the best example of how to love you.”

“No one else can love you until you love yourself.”

And there’s more to it.

What about the relationship between your spirit (soul) and your mind (ego)? How well is that relationship going?

This is the most important relationships to grow, as it affects everything in your life … Everything.

Your Mind (ego) works very hard. It tries to figure everything out for you. It’s what it’s good at. And yet, when it tries to do the job of Spirit (soul), it cannot. Mind gets frustrated as it is doing all it can think of. You feel like you are banging your head against a wall. You are “racking your brain”.

The fear is that if Mind allows Spirit to come in and do its job, the Mind will no longer be needed. Mind hangs on tightly, and speaks as loudly as it possibly can so Spirit cannot be heard.

On the other side, if Spirit came in and was the only one doing all the jobs, no action would be taken. We’d be sitting there blissfully inactive.

Spirit needs Mind. Mind needs Spirit.

The relationship of Spirit and Mind is one of those dualities that bring true balance.

As children, this balance existed effortlessly. Our Spirit (imagination) dreamed up the games. Our Mind put the games into action. Our Spirit allowed us to see the beautiful pies we were baking. Our Mind picked out the perfect mud to mold into our imaginary pie.

The older we grew, the more our Minds were celebrated. Our Mind’s voice grew louder as we wanted to be celebrated. Eventually our Mind’s voice grew so loud, we forgot about our Spirit, and how important its job was too.

The beautiful part of this is that our Spirit never went anywhere. It’s still there, sharing its wisdom, sparking flashes of brilliance and imagination.

The only thing that is needed now is for these two partners, Spirit and Mind, to remember how to communicate … to remember that it was sooooo much fun to play together!

Here are three ways to open up the lines of communication between your Spirit and your Mind.

1. Meditation

The intention of meditation is to quiet your Mind so that your Spirit can be heard. There is no right way to meditate, and there are many ways to meditate. You can use guided meditation CDs. You can use soothing music or sounds. Do you like the sound of water? You can use nature CDs or even the sound of water in the shower.

Experiment and play with various forms of meditation until you find one that feeeeels good to you. As you move into your meditation, remind your Mind to listen carefully as Spirit can and often does share beautiful ideas. That’s where the Mind gets to step up and do what it’s best at … putting things into action.

2. Journaling

Journaling is a great way to open up communication between your Spirit and your Mind. By writing your desires and intentions in your Journal, for example, you are inviting a connection to your Spirit (imagination) and your Mind (consciousness). Ask questions in your Journal. You may not get answers when you are writing, but those answers will come in other times when you are not thinking out your question at all. Writing in your Journal is like plugging your computer into the internet. You are now ready to send and receive.

3. Listening

The truth is your Spirit is continuously communicating with you. It’s simply a matter of listening with the right ears.

Your body sensations are your Spirit communicating with you. You may feel something as simple as “heavy” or “light”. There are other sensations such as a sinking feeling, or butterflies of excitement.

When you get these sensations, listen. Don’t pass them off. They are not your mind messing with you. Listen. The light sensations are saying “yes!” You’re likely on path or heading in the right direction. The heavy sensations are saying “no!” You’re off path. It’s time to tweak and shift until we (your Spirit and the conscious You) feel good again.

Your emotions are also communications from spirit, much like the body sensations. Your emotions could be labeled as light or heavy emotions too, and the same on path or off path interpretation can be used as well. Just keep tweaking and shifting until you feel good again.

As your lines of communication begin to open, you’ll find you can blend these three methods together. As you listen, play with those messages in your Journal and while you meditate.

You will find over time that you become a much better listener, and you’ll have more to play with as you meditate or journal. As you meditate or journal more, you’ll find you hear more as you move through your day to day routines. Creative ideas and solutions will pop up out of seemingly no where.

Your Mind will begin to welcome these communications as it will have more to play with, and it will feeeeeel so much better knowing it doesn’t have to figure everything out. Your Mind just has to do what it does best … put things into action.

Are you ready to nurture the most important relationship in your life? Let your Spirit and Mind play together again.

Who’s Flying Your Plane?

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

plane.jpg
“How did I end up here?”
Have you ever asked yourself that question?

Have you been living on “autopilot”, and wandering aimlessly through life as other people and things nudge you from place to place? Are you so far away from your dreams you wonder if it’s even possible to get back there? Have you caught yourself saying, “What’s the point,” and continue sleep walking through your life?

How would your life change if you chose to make your decisions based on your dreams and intentions? This simple act of focused decision adds only a few seconds to your decision making process, and adds much more feeling and purpose to your life.

This simple act of making decisions based on your dreams and goals, immediately puts the “pilot controls” back in your hands. You no longer sleepwalk. You are fully conscious as you journey through life, choosing where you go and what you experience.

Take some time to observe yourself for the next week or so. What do you do when people and things begin to nudge you? Do you react quickly, or do you consciously respond?

There is incredible power in observation. You see quickly where you are right now. You are then able to decide where you would rather be, and can begin to map your way there.

Here are 7 powerful questions you can ask yourself when you are choosing your response or reaction. The intention of these questions is to trigger new ways of thinking as you begin the journey of conscious living.

1. What do I want to experience?
2. How do I want to feel?
3. Does this reaction move me towards or away from my Dreams and Goals?
4. What will it cost me if I react?
5. What benefits will I receive from responding?
6. What would it take to respond rather than react?
7. What is the ideal way to deal with this situation?

When you are in the heat of the moment, and faced with choosing to react or respond, pulling up these questions may not be simple at first. Changing your habit from reacting to responding is a day-to-day process.

Each time you sit down after the fact with these questions, you create new ways of thinking, and new solutions. As you play with these solutions, before long, the new way of responding and thinking comes quicker. The distance between the experience and the solution shortens. Rather than sitting with the questions at the end of the day, your solutions pop up immediately following the experience. Then, out of no where, your response and solution comes naturally, as you are in the experience. You get to choose!

What would happen if you responded according to what YOU wanted to experience, rather than reacting unconsciously? How would your life change?

You do get to choose. No one has power over you unless you hand it to them. Take back your power. Take your life off of autopilot and grab the controls. Move your life in the direction of your dreams.

Choose your destination, and begin living consciously today.

What’s in Your Backpack?

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

BackpackYou have a backpack.  We all do.  You carry it with you everywhere.  Your backpack has an infinite capacity, and can carry whatever you put in it.  The best part about it is you get to choose exactly what goes inside your backpack.

Let’s talk a little about what you can and often do put in your backpack.

Emotions can be carried in your backpack.  The thing to consider as you are choosing which emotions to keep is the weight of those emotions.

Joy is of course very light.  You can carry around acres of Joy, and it is light as a feather.  Other wonderfully light emotions you’ll want to keep are ones like playful, peaceful, calm, grateful and relaxed.

Heavy emotions are things like anger, frustration, or sorrow.  When you hang onto them, you are putting these heavy stones in your backpack.  Often it feels as though these heavy stones are thrown at you.  Catch them in your hands.  It’s okay to catch them.  Toss them around a bit, from hand to hand.  Feel them.  They are yours for that moment.  Is there a message written on the stone?

The important thing to remember with these heavier emotions is that while it is important to feel them, and look for any messages written on them, you do not need to put them in your backpack.  Once you are done with these emotions, and have received all you need to receive from them, simply put them back on the ground as you walk along your journey.

Experiences are another thing you carry in your backpack.  These too have different weights.

Victim-ness is a very heavy experience to carry in your backpack.  It weighs you down.  It slows you down.  You use a lot of energy to carry it with you.  Each time you are a victim, you put a new stone in your backpack.

Have you ever listened to someone list all their bad experiences?  Their backpacks carry many heavy stones.  Consider their life.  Are they moving and growing, or have they remained in the same place for years?

Take a moment now to sit down.  Look inside your backpack.  Just sit in the grass at the side of your road.  Take your backpack off.  I’m sure you can use the breather from carrying it.

How many heavy stones do you have?  Are you ready to take them out of your backpack?

One way of releasing your heavy load is through Forgiveness.  As you forgive, you remove the heavy stones from your backpack.  Forgiving others is important, but sometimes the heaviest stones are removed by forgiving yourself.

You don’t need to do this all at once.  As you continue along your journey, simply sit down from time to time and look inside your backpack.

As you release your heavy experiences, your load begins to lighten.  You stand taller.  You have more energy to pursue the activities that bring you joy.  You experience freedom in a way you may have forgotten.

As your pace quickens, and the spring in your step returns, you see many more beautiful experiences to put in your backpack.  Joyful memories are surprising light.  You can carry a lot of them.  Celebrations fit effortlessly in there, seemingly taking up no room at all.  Fun is another experience that absolutely belongs in your backpack.

As you stop on the side of the road from time to time to look through your backpack, you will notice how much lighter it is getting, yet when you look inside it’s so full!  Before long, during these picnics at the side of the road, instead of taking out stones and putting them down, you’re looking through the abundance of memories and feelings you’ve consciously chosen to carry with you.  They seem to multiply right before your eyes.

As you stand to continue your journey, you feel surprisingly light; even more so than you did before you sat down.  You notice how many more light and joyful experiences are along your path.  It becomes fun to look around for them, and to test just how full you can get your backpack.

What do you choose to carry in your backpack?
